Heading for the Island!

Posted by Wanda

Jim and I are flying out next Wednesday (March 29th) to Vancouver Island to meet with the builder and the designer. We have been working with the designer (long distance, via email) and we believe we are getting pretty close to nailing down the final design. I bought this amazing design software (which Kyla found online, thanks Kyla!) and have been able to send them fairly detailed and accurate plan ideas. I do however rely on the designer and builder to ensure they meet code, the island is in an earthquake zone so they have stringent building requirements.

Here’s what we have come up with so far. Included with the floor plan are just a few 3D screenshots, and yes I know there is no ceiling on them :).

Do you plan on doing more gardening out there or will it be a low maintenance type of landscape you’re interested in. I imagine the wildlife will bring some challenges with some planting or gardening, but so worth the challenge to have nature in your own back yard. You can compete with the jam lady you tracked down for Wendy. I’ll move out and we can open a roadside bakery and jam stand lol.

Yes, don’t know what I’m going to do about the cougars! Actually it’s funny because I’m moving to a planting zone of 8 from 3. I’m actually going to sign up for classes because I am not familiar with zone 8 plants. It will be fun!

The cougars are just interested in younger men, not gardens…lol…oh you mean the four legged kind. I bet it will be a learning curve but will certainly add to the adventure and keep you busy.

Too funny. That would take some getting used to especially when all we see are rabbits and squirrels.
